PAT Testing

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing) is a set of electrical testing procedures that most workplaces, commercial environments and other areas should regularly undergo to ensure that all appliances within that area are safe for human use.

Portable appliance testers are designed to test the electrical safety of portable appliances and come in two forms: PASS/FAIL or full reading.

While PASS/FAIL testers offer a quick and easy way to test the electrical safety of appliances, they merely state whether a particular appliance is safe or not, and do not provide additional readings.

Full-reading PAT testers provide more information than PASS/FAIL testers by providing details about the tests performed such as the earth resistance level or voltage used to perform a particular test. Full-reading PAT testers are more suited to engineers who test portable appliances on a larger scale or in bigger organisations, where more complex reading outputs are also required.
