Megger MCT105 Cable Tracer

The Megger MCT105 Cable Tracer is a professional cable locating system for electrical, construction and maintenance work. It traces and identifies cables and metallic conductors in walls, floors and underground, and it can operate with both live and de-energised conductors. It also helps locate conductor breaks and short circuits, identify fuses and circuit breakers, and trace metal water and heating pipes.

A separate transmitter and receiver provide visual and audible signal indication to help the user follow the transmitted signal. The receiver offers automatic or manual sensitivity adjustment, allowing the response to be fine-tuned during tracing. A non-contact voltage detector is built into the receiver, while an integrated torch helps when working in dark or poorly lit areas.

The Megger MCT105 Cable Tracer supports five transmitter voltage ranges of 12 V, 50 V, 120 V, 230 V and 400 V. Buried cables can be detected at depths of up to 2.5 metres, while specified cable locator depths depend on the application, medium and connection mode. Both the transmitter and receiver include automatic power-off and low-battery indication for practical day-to-day use.

Key Benefits
  • Trace cables and conductors through walls and underground without relying on visual access.
  • Work with both live and dead cables or conductors across a range of fault-finding tasks.
  • Locate conductor breaks and short circuits to support faster electrical troubleshooting.
  • Identify circuit breakers and fuses on electrical circuits during maintenance and diagnosis.
  • Use visual and audible signal-strength indication to follow the transmitted signal accurately.
  • Adjust receiver sensitivity automatically or manually to suit the tracing task.
  • Check for voltage with the receiver’s built-in non-contact voltage detector.
  • Use the integrated receiver torch when tracing in dark or confined areas.
  • Trace metal water and heating pipes as well as electrical conductors.
  • Automatic power-off and low-battery indicators help manage battery use during field work.

Common Applications

Megger MCT105 Cable Tracer is suitable for a range of testing, maintenance and inspection tasks, including:

  • Tracing electrical cables and conductors within walls.
  • Locating buried electrical cables and conductors.
  • Finding breaks in electrical conductors.
  • Locating short circuits in cables and electrical circuits.
  • Identifying fuses associated with electrical circuits.
  • Identifying circuit breakers associated with electrical circuits.
  • Tracing cables in electrical underfloor heating systems.
  • Tracing metal water pipes.
  • Tracing metal heating pipes.

Why Choose This Model?

The Megger MCT105 Cable Tracer combines live and dead conductor tracing, fault location, fuse and circuit-breaker identification, non-contact voltage detection and pipe tracing in one transmitter-and-receiver system. Its adjustable sensitivity, visual and audible indication, built-in receiver torch and underground cable detection support a wide range of electrical maintenance and tracing tasks.
