For those concerned with the production and storage of wood in various forms, a moisture meter can help determine the level of dampness in building materials, wood and other material types.
A pin-type moisture meter can help you measure the amount of moisture in wood by touching the surface with a sharp pin. It may be necessary to insert the pins more deeply into the wood to get an accurate reading, however. Some pin-type meters come with optional hammer accessories which allow you to test deeper into the wood.
Pinless moisture meters scan the surface of a material rather than puncturing it. Although they don’t cause damage to the surface, being contactless, they can be less accurate because the contact is not direct.
