Airflow, Air Quality & Anemometers
An anemometer is a precision device used to measure wind speed. When a heating and air conditioning technician uses an anemometer, he or she can determine whether air conditioning and ventilation systems provide enough airflow for comfortable environments.
Anemometers are typically classified by their method of measurement. Most anemometers fall into the category of vane anemometers, which use fan-like sensors to measure the air passing through them. The type of vane sensor included depends entirely on the anemometer in question – some may have smaller sensors integrated directly into the body of the meter, while others come with flexible sensors equipped with cords.
When using an anemometer, the sensor should be held as close to the targeted testing area as possible. As the air begins to flow through the vane sensor, this device will calculate air velocity and airflow.
